Following site has some advice to that error:

The problem with htk is, that sometimes another error could cause this error to appear but doesn't have anything to with the message at all.It's hard to tell with out more information.

Another problem I had was mit Numbers like 13. They said I need to escapse them like \1\3 but this gave me other errors.

You could try to remove all files with numbers from your prompts and your dictionary.
