Sorry Ken, I haven't had time in the last few days to respond to all the posts here.   In brief, I'm glad you ran the MP3/wav tests and that under the conditions there were no statistically significant differences.    I trust that the GSoC entry went in on time and I hope that you get someone who is "Smart, and get things done" (ref http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/GuerrillaInterviewing3.html).   I've done similar tasks very many times before, so I'll certainly act as back-up mentor on this project should it help.

Thanks for the offer to be a back-up mentor!

Unfortunately, we were not selected as a mentor organization for a Google Summer of Code project .  I don't envy their task of going through all the excellent mentor submissions and having to choose.  There is always next year!
