VoxForge
I'm getting an "Illgal URL redirect" when running the recorder from http://www.voxforge.org/home/read. I found a suggestion for a French speaker that they use http://read.voxforge1.org/r0_1_10/SubmitSpeechWebGUI-FR.php instead.
I tried SubmitSpeechWebGUI-EN.php, and it initially started running, but when I retried (after checking to see whether there was an English/US script), it produced the same error. I tried the French script, which also worked initially, and it also produced the same error.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
I'm running:
java 1.7.0_25
chrome 28.0.1500.95
ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
kernel 3.2.0-52-generic

Please tell me at what point do you get the error: Before or after the IcedTea-Web Plugin for Java in Chrome asks for permission to run, on creating a recording, on upload?
You might need to clear your Java cache (not your browser cache) for things to work properly.
In Fedora (I don't have an Ubuntu PC handy just now..._:
go to the ".icetea" folder in your root directory and look for the cache entry for read.voxforge1.org and delete it.
And retry a submission.
Another option:
Try submitting directly to the mirror at: http://www.repository.voxforge1.org/SubmitSpeech/
For french, try: http://read.voxforge1.org/r0_1_12/SubmitSpeechWebGUI-FR.php
thanks,
ken

I cleared my cache (~/.java/deployment/cache) using jcontrol.
After clearing the cache, the rectangle where the applet should appear no longer reports an error, but it remains solid gray with no activity. Same with the error-report rectangle at http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp.
Any tips on restoring java? I can try blowing away the java installation and re-installing ...

I reinstalled java (now jre1.7.0_25), but no luck. Logged out and logged back in to kill any stuck processes, no luck.
Closed chrome, ran "rm -r ~/.java", restarted chrome, and now http://www.voxforge.org/home/read works.
Thanks for the java tips ...

Excellent, thanks for letting us know,
Not sure you needed to delete and reinstall Java, but you never know...

One last follow-up: it stopped with the same error after recording ~3 sets. Shutting down chrome, "rm -r .java", and restarting chrome fixed it again. As you surmised, no need to remove/reinstall java itself.
