Looks like Mozilla is working on a speech recognition front end called vaani that will allow users to submitt speech in different languages directly from FireFox.  This is amazing news for open source speech recognition.

Kelly Davis says that they will make the speech corpus and acoustic models available by the end of this year (2015).

vanni is an "on-device" virtual assistant for FirefoxOS.  It has a feature that allows users to read a few sentences and submit them to Mozilla for the creation of an open source corpus.

However, Mozilla has just announced that it will stop developing and selling FirefoxOS smartphones.  Hopefully they can repurpose their code to be used in the Firefox browser.
