Getting your recording to VoxForge

If you look in the Submissions System threads, you'll see folks making posts like:

Here's Burgess Animal Book for Children, by Thornton W. Burgess Ch01 http://www.server.com/file.wav"

The VoxForge Submissions Administrator ("SA") will use that link (http://www.server.com/file.wav) to download the reader's file.  The SA does not have to wait for a book to be completed in order to put them into the VoxForge Speech Corpus.

Let's go over that one more time, and then let's look at ways to put your recording where it can be linked to.

  1. You've claimed your chapter, recorded it, saved it as a high quality wav file, and there it is, sitting on your computer. We're going to call it recording.wav(onyourcomputer)

  2. You're going to put it on a server--fully explained below--and then we'll call it recording.wav(onaserver), and you'll return to the Submissions System (at bottom of this page) and post a link to your recording--also explained below.

  3. The SA spots your post in the Submissions System, downloads recording.wav(onaserver), and stores it on a server, let's call that recording.wav(onVoxForgeserver), for inclusion in the VoxForge Speech Corpus.

After step 3. you may erase recording.wav(onaserver) -- but it's good to  keep your recording.wav(onyourcomputer) as a backup just in case.

Step 1: Upload the wav file to a server.

With your web browser you can use one of several websites for sending large files. Some require opening a free account. Just follow the instructions on their site to upload your file. When you've uploaded a file, the site will show you a link for it, which you can post on the submisson system. The file will be erased after a few days, so be sure the SA gets the file in that time; otherwise you'll need to re-upload and try again.

Step 2: Post a link

Click the 'Add' link (see below) to post a link to your file and clearly specify what you have recorded (e.g. title and chapter) - so we can track down the text.  The VoxForge Submission Administrator will take it from there.  If you don't know the link, just create post to explain what you've done, and you'll get help figuring it out.
